Travel Colds

I have a deep-seated aversion to travel colds, and I’m certain I can’t be the only one who experiences this. It seems like every time I travel, I end up with sinus issues. Whether it’s a trip to Virginia or several visits to Florida, my sinuses always seem to flare up. It’s become so routine that I now pack sinus medication whenever I go on a trip.

Travel colds are another beast altogether. They often start with a slight tickle in my throat and a few sniffles, but quickly escalate into a full-blown sore throat. I always seem to forget about these travel colds until they hit, and then I start worrying about strep, COVID, or something even worse. Strangely enough, they usually vanish almost as abruptly as they appeared.

Hubs suspects that it’s the hotel we stay at during our trips to Disney World. He claims this happens every time we stay at a hotel, and he might have a point. I also wonder if it could be related to the air circulation in the car, or maybe it’s the recycled air in airplanes. I don’t travel by air frequently enough to draw any definitive conclusions.

This last time, it felt like I had swallowed a handful of knives. The sore throat was intense, but thankfully it eased up by morning, only to be replaced by lingering stuffiness and sinus pressure that seemed to last for days.
