(Almost) Mom Fail: Whipped Cream Edition

I almost had a major mom fail.

It was the morning of the last day of school before winter break, and everything seemed to be going flawlessly. We were out the door on time and not a minute late.

That’s when I should have known something was off. Mornings never go that smoothly.

I dropped the boys off at school and headed home to get ready for work. Just as I was about to pull into the office parking lot, I checked my phone and saw a message from Boy2’s teacher: “Did you send in the whipped cream?”

Panic set in. The whipped cream was still in my fridge at home, and I was a good 30 minutes away.

Desperately, I called in a huge favor from my dad. He dashed to my house, grabbed the whipped cream, and delivered it to the school. I didn’t hear back from the teacher, so I spent the day fretting. Was it too late? Had I ruined the holiday party? Were they waiting on the whipped cream for hot chocolate?

When I finally picked up Boy2, I braced myself for the worst. But to my relief, my dad had made it in time. The whipped cream was indeed for the hot chocolate they were having during the movie, and they hadn’t even started the film yet.

I can’t even begin to describe how terrible I felt. It wasn’t my first mom fail, and I know it won’t be my last. In the grand scheme of things, this was a minor hiccup, but it certainly drove me crazy. I’m so grateful my parents live nearby.

Have you had any parenting fails you’d like to share?
