I’m the Grownup

I dislike doing laundry so, so much.

I am overwhelmed by laundry—it’s just the worst.

If you’ve been following my posts, you know how overwhelming laundry can be for me (see my previous laundry post). A few weeks ago, I decided to quit doing it altogether. Curious why? Let me explain…

I came across a social media post where someone shared their struggle with their therapist over doing the dishes. Their dishwasher was dreadful, and they dreaded the task. The therapist suggested running the dishwasher twice. The person was baffled—was that even a thing? But the therapist insisted, and it worked wonders.

Inspired, I decided to apply the same approach to laundry. I stopped doing it entirely, even abandoning the laundry basket. And guess what? Hubs seamlessly stepped in to handle everything. Normally, we share the chores—loading, swapping, unloading, and folding. But he took over without a hitch. I often think if the roles were reversed, I’d probably throw a fit, but he didn’t skip a beat. He just picked up the slack.

I’m done with my laundry strike now, and it felt good to take a break. Winter break brought a mountain of laundry, and stepping away for a while was exactly what I needed. It’s reassuring to know that if I need a breather, my partner will keep things running smoothly without any fuss.

We’re all grown-ups, right? If you need a break or extra help, don’t hesitate to take it. Run that dishwasher twice, let the laundry sit for a bit—sometimes, a little pause is all you need.
