I’m Rooting for the Offense

I typically tune in to the Super Bowl primarily for the commercials. Over the years, there have been some unforgettable ones, especially from brands like Budweiser and Doritos. This year, however, I found that most of the ads didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The standout exceptions were a great Michelob Ultra commercial and Ben Affleck’s Dunkin’ Donuts ad, which had me laughing out loud.

While I’ve never been a big NFL fan, I do enjoy college football—Go Gamecocks!—and although I should probably support the Jets or Giants as a former New Yorker, I don’t have a strong preference for any NFL team. Recently, though, I’ve developed more of an interest in the NFL, thanks to listening to the New Heights podcast. So for this Super Bowl, I found myself cheering for the offense, just enjoying the game and the experience.

It would have been pretty cool if Taylor Swift’s boyfriend had won, but I’m just joking. I genuinely enjoy listening to Jason and Travis Kelce on their podcast. Their enthusiasm for the game and the respect they show for players across other teams is truly inspiring. It’s definitely shifted my perspective on the NFL. I also would have been excited if the 49ers had won—I’m a fan of Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, and George Kittle. Plus, Deebo Samuel and Javon Kinlaw from South Carolina are on the 49ers roster. Ultimately, I was just looking forward to a great game between two strong teams. While the first half wasn’t as thrilling as I hoped, the second half made up for it.

The halftime show was a highlight for me, especially when Lil Jon and Ludacris made their appearance. It had that quintessential Vegas flair.

And of course, one of my favorite parts of the Super Bowl is the snacking! I made Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Dip from EatingWell and Turnip Green Dip from Southern Bite. We also DoorDashed wings from Buffalo Wild Wings—let’s be honest, I’m not about to pretend I can make wings as good as theirs. For dessert, I whipped up Easy Peach Cobbler Dump Cake from EatingWell. Everything turned out delicious. The Turnip Green Dip was a surprise hit, tasting just like spinach artichoke dip despite not containing either ingredient. I’m thrilled with how it all came together!

While preparing the buffalo chicken dip, I had the chance to try out a fantastic new kitchen gadget I picked up from Amazon: a chicken shredder! This tool proved to be incredibly effective. I cooked the chicken in the crock pot, which made it exceptionally tender, and the shredder made quick work of pulling it apart. I’m not sure how it would perform with grilled chicken, though, as the exterior tends to be a bit tougher.

This weekend, I watched two thrilling games that both went into overtime. The first was the Stingrays hockey game on Saturday night, and let me tell you, overtime always has me on the edge of my seat. The tension is palpable! Hubs was cheering for the 49ers, so he’s a bit disappointed with how the game ended, but I was entertained right up to the final moments.

Did you catch the game? How were the snacks, halftime show, and commercials for you?
