Guilty as charged.
One of the most thrilling aspects of becoming a new mom for me was seeing my kids dive into various activities and sports. The meme in this post might suggest otherwise, but trust me—it’s true. I want them to make friends, be active, and enjoy every moment of their childhood. Living in a condo with a shared yard just doesn’t offer the same opportunities as having a yard of their own. My husband and I were determined to find outlets for their boundless energy.
We’ve tried baseball and are currently in soccer. Our goal has always been to let them explore different activities and discover what they truly enjoy before settling into a routine. While they liked baseball, it didn’t hold their attention as much as we hoped. Boy2, on the other hand, is thriving with soccer and is now in his third season.
We recently made the tough decision to pause sports for Boy1 until we have a clearer understanding of his seizures. We were testing out karate, thinking the discipline could benefit him, but we were concerned about potential head contact. Since he enjoys running, I’m exploring kids’ running programs. Unfortunately, while our local YMCA offers great programs, running isn’t one of them.
There’s nothing quite like cheering from the sidelines at your child’s game. Seeing them look up, spot you, and beam their biggest smile—it’s truly priceless. Those moments are my absolute favorite.
But there’s always a “but,” isn’t there? Sometimes, we all need a break.
Last weekend, we had a whirlwind of activities for Boy2’s birthday. Soccer game, dinner, and a dinosaur show on Saturday; church, his birthday party, and family dinner on Sunday. It wasn’t an overwhelming schedule, but it was still a lot to handle, especially since Hubs was working until 4:00 on Saturday and I had to manage the first half of the day solo.
So, when a coworker mentioned that their kids’ soccer game might be canceled due to weather, I secretly hoped ours would be too. The games always get rescheduled, so Boy2 wouldn’t miss out, but it would have given me a much-needed breather to prepare party bags, pick up the cake, and catch my breath.
