Dining with Kids: Chinese Express (Summerville, SC)

While buffets might spark some debate in the post-COVID era, I’m not letting that hold me back. There’s something undeniably satisfying about a good buffet, and I’m always up for a little adventure—both culinary and immune-system-wise.

Recently, we took the kids to a Chinese buffet, and it was a hit! If you’re parenting a picky eater or someone with a smaller appetite, buffets are a fantastic choice. They offer a smorgasbord of options, so kids can sample different dishes and pile on their favorites.

I have a personal fondness for buffets from my chemotherapy days. With my taste buds on a rollercoaster, I loved the element of surprise. I could explore various flavors and indulge in whatever tasted best at the moment—whether it was something bold or simply flavorful.

Chinese buffets offer such a wide array of choices that they’re usually a hit with kids. Whether they’re in the mood for something exotic or just basic chicken and fries, there’s typically something to please every palate. We’ve always had great luck with our picky eater at buffets, and the cost is usually quite reasonable. For our family of four, the bill came to just over $50 (before tip).

If you’re in Summerville, we definitely recommend Chinese Express. It’s earned a big thumbs up from our crew!
