Dining with Kids: Chuy’s (Kissimmee, FL)

When we visit Orange Lake, Chuy’s Tex-Mex is an essential stop on our dining itinerary. Known for its mouthwatering Tex-Mex fare and fantastic margaritas, Chuy’s quickly became a favorite after I first visited one during a work trip to Texas years ago. When I heard a location was opening right outside Orange Lake, I eagerly introduced the whole family to it, and we’ve been hooked ever since.

The kids’ menu at Chuy’s offers a solid mix of options. While it includes familiar American staples like burgers and chicken tenders, it also features some tasty Tex-Mex choices. Both boys opted for the kids’ tacos and thoroughly enjoyed them. We have a little rule when dining at cuisine-themed restaurants (whether it’s Asian, Mexican, Italian, or seafood)—the boys should try something that fits the theme of the restaurant. Even though Boy2 is picky, he usually finds something authentic to enjoy, like tacos or shrimp, rather than defaulting to burgers or nuggets. This approach has helped him broaden his palate over time, and we’ve yet to encounter any resistance.

One of the standout features of Chuy’s Tex-Mex is the balloon animal artist who brings extra fun to the dining experience. During dinner, he roams the restaurant creating balloon animals for the kids. Boy1 was thrilled to receive a Grogu balloon, while Boy2 got an Iron Man. Along with his impressive balloon skills, he entertained us with a series of hilarious, Jungle Cruise-style jokes that had the adults laughing out loud. Watching him in action was truly captivating.

As for the adult fare, our group sampled a variety of entrees, and each one was delicious. I couldn’t resist trying the jalapeño margarita, which was absolutely fantastic and perfectly complemented the meal.

If you come across a Chuy’s on your travels, I highly recommend stopping by. With so many locations, it’s a great option for enjoying excellent food and a memorable dining experience.
