As a family, we’re always on the lookout for fun and meaningful activities that bring us together while teaching our boys important life lessons. Recently, we’ve embarked on a new project that combines creativity, entrepreneurship, and giving back to the community: making silicone bead keychains!

This venture came about after a memorable experience when our second graders participated in their school’s Market Day. The boys had a blast brainstorming, creating, and then selling their products to classmates using mock cash they earned at school. They were so excited to see how their hard work translated into real-world economics. From that moment, we realized that not only did they gain valuable lessons about business, but they also developed a sense of ownership and pride in what they had created.
Now, we’re taking it to the next level by making these keychains as a family. We can already see how it’s helping the boys develop new skills, particularly Boy2, who is working on improving his fine motor abilities. The process of stringing and threading the silicone beads is not only fun but also therapeutic and excellent for building coordination and dexterity.
Making silicone bead keychains is the perfect project for us right now. The process is simple enough that the boys can fully participate, but creative enough to keep everyone engaged. Plus, the silicone beads come in so many bright colors and shapes, allowing us to create custom designs that are fun, stylish, and perfect for gifting.
One of the best parts of this project is how it allows the boys to take what they learned in Market Day and apply it to a real-world situation. They’re not only helping with production, but also learning about pricing, budgeting, and profit margins. We’ve had family discussions about what goes into running a business—how to determine fair pricing, how to keep track of costs, and the importance of saving money. They’re excited to see how their hard work can lead to something tangible and impactful.
We feel strongly about teaching our children the importance of giving back, so we’ve decided that a portion of the proceeds from our silicone bead keychains will be donated to organizations that are close to our hearts: the SETBP1 Society, the Epilepsy Foundation, the American Heart Association, Breast Cancer Foundation, and the American Cancer Society to name a few. These organizations do incredible work to support families and individuals affected by various health conditions, and we want to contribute to their efforts.

We’ve always talked to our boys about how lucky we are and how important it is to help others who may be going through difficult times. This project has given us a concrete way to make that lesson come to life. Every time they help make a keychain or watch a sale, they’re reminded of the impact they can have on others.
The remaining portion of the proceeds will be put into the boys’ savings accounts. It’s a great opportunity to teach them about the value of saving, setting goals, and watching their money grow. They’re already learning the basics of financial responsibility, and this will give them a tangible experience that they can build on in the future.
We’re excited to see where this new venture takes us. For now, we’re enjoying the creative process, the bonding time, and the lessons we’re learning together. As the boys continue to develop their skills and knowledge, we hope to expand the project, adding more designs and even offering custom keychains to friends and family. Who knows? Maybe this family business will one day grow into something bigger—but for now, it’s just a fun and meaningful way to spend time together, support good causes, and teach our boys about hard work and generosity.

So, if you see us out and about with our colorful silicone bead keychains, know that they’re not just a cute accessory—they’re a symbol of our family’s commitment to creativity, entrepreneurship, and giving back. Stay tuned for more updates, and thanks for supporting our little family venture!
