From No-Knead to All the Extras: A Cozy Scratch-Made Experiment

I enjoyed making the No-Knead Bread from The Sprouting Homestead so much that I couldn’t help myself—I had to play around with it and add a few “accessories.” After all, once you have a loaf of warm, crusty bread on your counter, it feels like an invitation to keep going. I found a few additional recipes on The Sprouting Homestead that paired perfectly with this delicious bread and just had to give them a try.

The Cranberry-Strawberry Orange Christmas Jam (recipe linked below) is the perfect balance of tart and sweet. It’s wonderful spread on a slice of fresh bread all on its own, but it’s also delicious with a little almond butter layered on top.

The Holiday Bread Dipping Oil (recipe linked below) turned out to be exactly what I was craving—and didn’t even realize it—when I first sampled the bread. I wanted something that would let me soak up every last bit of flavor, and this oil absolutely delivered.

Back to the bread itself. There’s just something about fresh-baked bread that feels extra special, which is wild considering it’s made with only five simple ingredients you probably already have in your pantry (see recipe linked below). How is it that good? And why aren’t we all making bread at home more often? I ate my first slice plain, and it was perfect. The last time I made homemade bread before this was Amish friendship bread from a starter I divided and shared with friends. Those were the days.

There’s something deeply satisfying about making food from scratch, especially when it turns out better than expected.
