When it comes to dining out with kids, finding a restaurant that caters to both their tastes and your sanity can be a challenge. Luckily, Cracker Barrel has become our go-to spot for family meals, and here’s why it works so well for us. The restaurant is also very lively and loud, so loud kids won’t cramp that style (but keep that in mind for kids with sensory needs).

One of the standout features at Cracker Barrel is their children’s menu, which is not only full of kid-friendly options but also visually appealing. The menu includes pictures of each dish, making it a breeze for Boy1 to choose his entrée independently. No need for him to struggle with reading—he can simply check the box beside the dish he wants. This little touch makes him feel proud of himself.

Boy2, our resident picky eater, often goes for the Lil’ Barrel Cheeseburgers, paired with a side of apple sauce. It’s one of the few places where he’s consistently happy with his meal. The cheeseburgers are just the right size for him, and the apple sauce is a great way to balance out the meal with something healthy.
Boy1, tried the chicken tenders this trip. He enjoyed them with a side of apple sauce, which he finds just as tasty as the chicken. It’s comforting to know he’s getting a meal he enjoys, especially when dining out can sometimes be hit or miss for kids.

A special treat that makes our boys’ dining experience even better is the chocolate milk with a candy straw. It’s always a hit and adds a bit of fun to their meal. Additionally, after they finish their meals and the activities on their menus, they can play with the classic peg games on the table. It’s a great way to keep them entertained and engaged while we enjoy our own meals.
For myself, I went with the chicken tenders, served with carrots and fried okra. The carrots, in particular, are a favorite of mine. They’re always perfectly cooked and deliciously sweet. The fried okra is a delightful southern treat that never disappoints.

Hubs decided to try the pot roast this time around, which he paired with macaroni and cheese and turnip greens. The pot roast is tender and flavorful, a testament to Cracker Barrel’s commitment to hearty, satisfying meals. The turnip greens are another trademark southern veggie staple.

Dining at Cracker Barrel isn’t just about the food—it’s about the experience. The cozy, country-themed décor and the friendly atmosphere make it a pleasant place to spend time together as a family. The peg games on the table provide a fun distraction for the boys, and the entire experience leaves us looking forward to our next visit.
Overall, Cracker Barrel has earned its spot as a family favorite. The food is consistently good, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is just right for a family meal. If you’re looking for a place where both kids and adults can find something to enjoy, Cracker Barrel might just be your next great dining adventure.
